OUR STORY
Bartlett Baptist Church began as a mission of Naperville Baptist Church in Naperville, IL.
The mission began holding morning services in April 1981 at the Bartlett Grade School. In July 1981 the Lawhorns returned to Texas and Rev. Jerry Gleason was called as pastor in August 1981 accompanied by his wife and three children. Services remained at Bartlett Grade School until September 1983 when the mission moved to Eastview Grade School until April 1987. Evening and mid-week services were held at the Gleason residence during this time.
In June of 1983 Bartlett Baptist Church constituted as a church and became known as "Bartlett Baptist Church." In August 1983 the church with the help of the Illinois Baptist Association and the Home Mission Board, purchased four acres located at 1500 W. Stearns Rd. in Bartlett, Illinois.
On September 7th, 1986 a "Ground Breaking" ceremony was held at the new church site on Stearns Rd. and then completed the first phase of building. On April 27th, 1987 the first service was held in the facility.
On February 1st, 1989, work began on Phase 2 to meet the needs of a growing congregation, which included additional educational and worship space.
The '90s were a time of growth for Bartlett Baptist Church with attendance breaking 100 in Bible Study numerous times. In 1999, work was completed for phase 3 which provided for a new 4000 sq. ft. multi-purpose facility. This facility allowed for a larger sanctuary and additional Sunday School classes.
The church began an elementary school in 2002 and this fall will offer grades K – 6th. We will continue to add a grade each year until we reach 8th grade. Current funds are being raised for a new multi-purpose facility which will provide for a gymnasium, lunchroom, and additional classrooms.
